Osceola County students learn all about drones

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Throughout the states, career technology programs have replaced the beloved and hands on, “always wear your safety goggles”, shop programs of yesteryear.

Osceola County reaps benefits as a top tier career technical training program in Florida. Through their multimedia classes and clubs, the students and teachers are now rising to new levels in aeronautics, physics, geometry, law and national history - involving aviation. The core mission of any career technical class is to train a student to go from classroom to career in four years or less through certifications and experience.

Osceola County classrooms work in a collaborative educational environment. This approach synchronizes similar subjects with each other for an improved learning experience. Drones are new to the county and are eagerly being embraced by career technical teachers.

A synchronized day for a student may involve a multimedia class where a student learns how to film an overhead, moving, establishing shot with a one inch sensor camera mounted drone, geometry class where theory and proofs explain how angles and distance from the drone camera lens affect perception and range, physics class where forces are studied involving  gravity, transferring power, engines, and lift, and a history or avionics class, where background and laws in flight are taught.

Embracing drone technology, collaborating and working cooperatively among each other, Osceola students are being prepared for the careers of the future in today’s classrooms.  Students utilize drone technology and then move on to related subjects that engage the student’s acumen in theory, discussion and debate that organically grows from real experiences.

The behind the scenes best part of Osceola’s drone program may be that there is no cost to the tax payers. All drones and supporting equipment have been purchased through grant money in collaboration with technology businesses, via proven excellence supported by objective data in the classroom.
