Homemade flying vehicle takes off with 2 passengers, Marion cops say

DUNNELLON, Fla. – Two people were taken to a hospital Tuesday after a "flying car" crashed at Dunnellon Airport, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they were called to the airport in reference to the "flying car" crash.  The homemade vehicle took off with two people aboard, but then crashed and ignited, according to deputies.

Both occupants were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, officials said.

An investigation is ongoing, but the Federal Aviation Administration will not be involved because the "flying car" is not recognized as an aircraft.

Marion County sheriff's deputies initially identified a different type of vehicle as the flying car.They later issued a correction and said the new picture of the "flying car" was the proper representation.
