Palm Bay police search for attacker


PALM BAY, Fla. – Palm Bay police continue to search for a man who's wanted in an attempted homicide after he slashed another man with a machete in an apparent random attack.

The attack happened around 12:30 a.m. Friday at an apartment complex on near Dr. Harvey Riley Avenue in Palm Bay.  Witnesses said the man was on a late-night walk with a woman when they were attacked.

Police said the man was cut on his head, arms, legs and hands.  He was taken to a hospital and was listed in serious but stable condition.  Officials said the man may lose some of his fingers.  The woman was not injured.

The assailant and the machete have not been located.

Police said they don't believe the victim knew the attacker.
