DELTONA, Fla. – Deputies have arrested a Volusia County mother after they say she left her child unattended in the McDonald's play area and passed out in her car.

Deputies say 28-year-old Jessica Jones of Deltona went into the McDonald's on the 2100 block of Howland Boulevard around 8 p.m. Monday with her child, bought a Happy Meal and left the child unattended in the play area. She then went to her car and "passed out", witnesses told deputies.

Witnesses said they tried to wake up Jones before calling authorities. They said she was slumped over the steering wheel in the driver's seat of her car, according to the report.

Jones' speech was slurred when deputies arrived and they found a bottle of pills after searching her car, which included Oxycodone. Jones didn't have a prescription for the pills, according to the report.

Jones was charged with child neglect for leaving her child unattended in the restaurant and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Jones' mother came and picked up the child, according to the report.

The Department of Children and Families is now investigating.
