Sources: Former Magic assistant eliminated from Blazers top job

Steve Clifford interviewed in Portland on Monday

ORLANDO, Fla. – Former Orlando Magic assistant coach Steve Clifford will not be the next head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, sources told Local 6 sports director David Pingalore.

Clifford, who interviewed in Portland on Monday, was one of four candidates for the position.  Pingalore's sources said Clifford was informed of the decision on Tuesday.

Trail Blazers interim head coach Kaleb Canales and Terry Stotts, the former head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks, are the front-runners for the position, sources said.

The same sources said Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen likes Canales, and he's expected to get the job.
