2 arrested in DeLand pill robbery
DeLAND, Fla. – A man and woman were arrested in connection with a robbery involving prescription pills.
Rachel Rose, 27, and Stephon Doby, 29, were arrested Thursday. Doby was charged with robbery and attempted robbery and Rose was charged with being a principal to robbery for prescription pills.
On Aug. 12, there was a disturbance call at intersection of Cassadaga Road and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Beltway near DeLand. It was said two women reported a couple drove them to a pharmacy to receive their prescription pills, only to later rob them of those same pills, deputies said.
A 43-year-old woman reported she and another woman paid Rose $50 to drive them to a pharmacy in Clermont so the victim could buy her medication, and she has had Rose run errands for her previously.
On Aug. 12, Rose arrived to assist the women with her boyfriend, Doby, deputies said. Rose and her boyfriend ended up pulling over on their way back and demanded the pills, deputies said. After a struggle, Doby retrieved the pill bottle, and he left the two women stranded, deputies said. Later that day, it was reported that Rose called one of the women and threatened to kill her dog, said deputies.
Eventually, the couple was found and arrested.
Rose and Doby were both booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on bond, $5,000 and $40,000 respectively.
