Man charged in attack on Orange County deputy

Deputy injured while checking out drug tip at home

ORLANDO, Fla. – Authorities say a man accused of attacking an Orange County deputy who was checking out a drug tip has been charged.

Orange County Fire Rescue said the deputy was injured during a scuffle at what deputies called a known drug home on Volusia Drive and Hoffner Avenue just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.

OCSO said when three officers arrived on scene, they found 14 people inside the home and some sort of fight ensued.

The 14 people, eight of them women, were detained and deputies are investigating.

Orange County Fire Department said the deputy, who has been with OCSO for at least 8 years, was taken to Florida Hospital East with minor injuries.

It was first reported by authorities that the deputy was stabbed, but further investigation led to it not being a stabbing.

At least one person, 40-year-old Darrell Roby (pictured, right), has been charged with battery on an officer.

Deputies said drugs and money were found inside of the home and that they are called to the same home once a week.
