Teen struck, killed by train in Daytona Beach

Police investigate death near Daytona Beach Golf Club

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A 17-year-old boy is dead after being struck by a train, police say.

The incident happened before 9 p.m. Monday on Wilder Boulevard, near the Daytona Beach Golf Club.

Police said the train conductor claimed to have seen the teen, who was holding a skateboard, crossing the train tracks. The conductor sounded the train's whistle and tried to stop but was unable to stop the train in time.

The train then struck the teen, who Daytona Beach police have identified as Giovanni Gonzalez.

It is unknown why Gonzalez didn't hear the train, police said.
