Mom found drunk in road after picking up kids from school, officials say

Woman faces charges of child neglect

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A mother was arrested in Volusia County after, according to officials, she picked up her children from school and was so drunk that she fell in the street while trying to get into her car.

During the incident, her children-- ages 4 and 5 -- were alone by the side of the road near traffic, officials say.

Lindsey Scanlon, 35, was arrested on two counts of child neglect without great harm in the incident, which occurred Monday in the 1000 block of North Halifax Drive.

According to an arrest report, Scanlon showed up at the school after 6:30 p.m. and had slurred speech and difficulty walking. School officials called the Florida Department of Children and Families because there is an open case on Scanlon with the agency, the report shows.

When a DCF worker arrived at the school, she saw Scanlon's children on the side of the roadway in the dark, trying to help their mother get up, the report states.  The report says the girls were standing less than 5 feet from traffic and were unable to assist their mother because of their size.

Scanlon was arrested and taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail.

The girls were placed in the care of a relative, DCF officials said.
