ORLANDO, Fla. – Local 6 is learning more about what caused police to believe John DeJesus was lying about how his girlfriend died.

DeJesus is accused of shooting and killing Yolizmarie Borrero in front of her two young children and was arrested on first-degree murder charges Saturday.

He originally told deputies it happened during a home invasion, but deputies say his story did not add up.

According to the arrest affidavit, DeJesus had blood on his face and ear, and a large scratch on his side when deputies showed up to his home.

DeJesus kept saying, "Oh my God," and then told deputies, "I'm going back to prison for this."

When a deputy looked at him, he was puzzled. DeJesus clarified, "I'm going back to prison when I kill the guys who did this," according to the report.

Originally, DeJesus told deputies three masked men stormed into the home and accidentally shot his girlfriend, Yolizmarie Borrero, 22, in the head.

He said he watched the suspect shoot her from a distance, but the autopsy showed her injury was a contact wound.

He said he chased the suspects away, called 911, then cleaned his girlfriend's blood off the baby and himself.

Detectives have surveillance video from a neighbor's home, they say shows a man matching DeJesus' appearance, jump a fence and throw the murder weapon into the retention pond, about 15 minutes before DeJesus called 911.

A dive team pulled the gun out of the retention pond, according to the report.

In addition to first-degree murder, DeJesus is facing firearm and drug charges.

He is being held on no bond at the Orange County Jail.
