Volusia County voters pass half-penny sales tax
Volusia County voters voted to approve extending a half-penny sales tax at Tuesday's primary election.
The sales tax was proposed to help pay for school construction, replacing five schools and renovating more than a dozen schools.
The tax passed with 60 percent of the vote.
The tax was set to expire in 2016 and if continued, could generate $480 million over 15 years.
Brevard County will vote on adding a half-cent tax in November and voters in Seminole County already approved a oneAugust 2014 Primary Election-cent sales tax increase in May to help improve roads and schools.
