15-year-old boy faces grand theft, other charges
OCALA, Fla. – Police are still searching for at least three suspects after a wild chase caught on camera came to an end in a Publix parking lot.
Ocala police arrested a 15-year-old boy after he and his friends jumped out of moving cars and fled on foot while being chased by an officer in a squad car.
The teen finally gave up after taking the squad car on twists and turns in the parking lot of the Forty East shopping plaza just after 4 a.m. Wednesday.
The chase began when a security guard at a local car dealership spotted two vehicles drive off the lot without tags. Police followed in pursuit and reached speeds of 100 mph, according to the police report.
Dashcam video from the officer's car shows the chase and the circles the officer drove while trying to apprehend the suspects on foot.
In total, police said three cars were believed to have been stolen by the group, who are all believed to have come from Orlando with the goal of stealing cars.
The 15-year-old faces grand theft and other charges. Police are on the hunt for his buddies.
