12-year-old boy hit while crossing street on bicycle

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a 12-year-old was injured Thursday just after 6 p.m. while riding his bicycle.

Troopers said Jeremy Rios, 21, was driving north on Wetherbee Road in his Honda Accord, and Laura Paleveda, 57, was right behind him in her Chevy car.

The 12-year-old, Evan Ramos, was attempting to cross Wetherbee Road at Landstar Boulevard in the crosswalk when Rios' vehicle reportedly struck him. After falling to the ground, he tried to get up and was then struck by Paleveda.

Evan, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was reportedly taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers said Evan's bike had no lights on it.

No other details were immediately available.
