Video shows street racing in neighborhood, Marion cops say

Residents complain of race cars

OCALA, Fla. – Residents of a Marion County neighborhood say they've had just about enough of loud race cars zooming through their neighborhood.

Marion County sheriff's deputies responded to a resident's call on Sunday evening.
They had reported approximately 30 souped-up cars had been speeding near SW 55 Avenue Road.

Deputies say when they arrived they saw the cars and urged all of the drivers to leave the area.

Investigators say one of the cars later zoomed past one of their patrol cars at a high rate of speed.

The deputy drove after the car, losing it in the darkness.

The streets in the area are wide open and rarely traveled, making them perfect for racers, residents tell Local 6.

They say the racers can be heard almost every night now and they're worried someone is going to get hurt.

Lauren Lettelier with the Marion County Sheriff's Office says street racing is illegal, and she urged anyone who knows who the drivers are to call MCSO immediately.
