Family searching for dog near Gainesville

Dog spooked by bison in Paines Prairie

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A Texas family is searching for their dog after they said bison caused him to be separated from them.

Cindy Ashby posted on the Gainesville Pet Finder Facebook page, saying they lost their 3-year-old rescue dog Bear at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park.

Here is Ashby's post:

"My name is Cindy Ashby and we lost our dog today. He is a rescue dog but looks most like a rat terrier about 30 lbs.
His name is Bear. We are visiting here for work for a seminar. My phone number is 214-597-5315. He was walking with my husband in Paines Prairie when a buffalo came out and rammed his horns into my husbands back and threw them in the water. He let the leash go so Bear wouldn't drown. He was spooked and ran off and was last seen running north toward University."

Dogs are not allowed in much of the park because of alligators and bison in the area.
