ORLANDO, Fla. – A 40-year-old man wanted for stealing a car from a woman who was dropping her children off at a day care was arrested Friday, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Wilkyns Melendez arrived around 10 a.m. Friday at a day care on Woodbury Road, deputies said.

The Sheriff's Office said Melendez began to argue with a woman he knew as she dropped off her children.

Melendez pushed the woman to the ground, assaulted her and took her keys, deputies said. He then took off in her vehicle.

Melendez called the woman throughout the day, harassed her and threatened to hurt her, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Police learned the whereabouts of the woman's vehicle later Friday.

Deputies said Melendez was not in the vehicle, but was found hiding in the bathroom of a nearby business.

Melendez has been jailed on aggravated battery, carjacking and third-degree grand theft of a motor vehicle charges.
