Man shot to death in Marion County home invasion

Deputies ID victim as Robert Wilson

SILVER SPRINGS SHORES, Fla. – A 30-year-old man was shot dead early Wednesday in a Marion County home invasion, according to deputies.

The fatal shooting happened around 1 a.m. at a home in the 8800 block of Southeast 88th Place in Silver Springs Shores.

According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a call about a shooting and found Robert Wilson dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Witnesses said at least one person entered the home and fired multiple shots, killing Wilson, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The victim's mother told Local 6 that she was asleep when she heard gunshots. Someone then opened the door to her bedroom and fired shots toward her.

A few seconds later, the victim's mother said she grabbed a broom and ran after the intruders. She said she saw four people run off, and at least one of them dove through a closed window.

The victim's mother told Local 6 that she then found her son on the ground with gunshot wounds.  Officials said Wilson was found dead in a bedroom.

Deputies said the shooting may have occurred during a robbery attempt.

"We can't say for sure that the suspect(s) knew the victim, but we believe this wasn't a random hit," the Marion County Sheriff's Office said in an email.
