Wildlife feeding prohibited in parks

Melbourne city officials are urging residents not to feed wildlife, especially birds.

According to a release, the Humane Society lists the following reasons not to feed birds:

  • Malnutrition: Birds fill up on bread and they won't eat natural more nutritious food.
  • Aggression: Feeding makes wild animals lose fear in people.
  • Disease: Attracting birds with food causes overcrowding and makes diseases spread faster.
  • Injury/Death: Feeding wildlife near roads leads them into roadway where they can be killed or injured.
