ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police arrested a man accused of hitting a woman with his truck and leaving her in a ditch while fleeing the scene.
It happened Tuesday afternoon on Old Winter Garden Road. Orlando police initially responded to a battery call, but when they arrived at the scene, they came across what the Florida Highway Patrol confirms was a hit-and-run.
FHP says a man driving a truck hit the woman, causing her to end up in a nearby ditch, and then took off. But it wasn't long before neighbors like Dorothy Ingram spotted him a couple blocks away.
"The whole front end of the truck fell on my road," Ingram said. "We didn't know if he was going to stop. He jumped out the truck and started running on John Young."
While officers chased after the suspect, half a dozen firefighters worked to cut the roof off the SUV, before pulling the woman to safety.
Orange County Fire Rescue tells Local 6 that the woman is in stable condition.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries, but he faces charges from Orlando police and FHP.
