Man accused of shooting at South Daytona police officer

No one injured in shooting

SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. – A man was arrested early Wednesday in Volusia County on suspicion of shooting at a South Daytona police officer.

No one was injured in the incident, which started near the intersection of O'Brien Way and South Palmetto Avenue and ended a few blocks away at Palmetto Avenue and Beville Road near South Daytona Middle School.

According to police, Officer Ian Altes was in an unmarked car when he spotted a man driving erratically and pulled behind the vehicle.  The driver, Kyle Gullo, jumped out of his car and opened fire on the officer, who was still in his vehicle, police said.

No one was struck by the gunfire.

Gullo, 26, was arrested after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a wooded area.  He was taken to a hospital after complaining about a medical problem.

Police said Gullo was believed to have been involved in a domestic dispute earlier and may not have known that he was firing at an officer.

No other details were immediately released.
