Tow truck driver battles Orlando house fire with garden hose

No injuries reported in fire

ORLANDO, Fla. – A tow truck driver took on the role of firefighter early Tuesday after he spotted a home going up in flames.

Harrison Figueroa was driving his tow truck around 2 a.m. in the area of Balboa Drive near Pine Hills Road when he said he smelled smoke.

After driving down a few streets, Figueroa said he saw flames shooting through the roof of a home on Santa Barbara Road.

"I jumped out of my truck and tried to bang on the door to see if anybody was in there," Figueroa said.

When no one came to the door, Figueroa called 911 and tried to battle the fire with a garden hose.

"The fire was just getting so crazy," Figueroa said.  "So I grabbed a hose, turned it on and started shooting at the fire."

Within minutes, firefighters arrived and extinguished the flames.

Firefighters said the homeowner was out of town and no one was inside the home.

A relative who lives nearby was watching the home and the homeowner's dogs, according to firefighters.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
