Man, 74, hit 100-year-old mom with broom in fight over cat, Volusia deputies say

Cops: Mom went into son's room to feed his cat when fight ensued

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 74-year-old Volusia County man has been arrested after deputies say he hit his 100-year-old mother in the head with a broom. 

David Corning has been charged with battery and aggravated battery in the Wednesday morning incident.

According to the report, the victim walked into her son's room to feed his cat, when Corning approached her and started verbally assaulting her.

Deputies said Corning then picked up a broom and swung it at the mother, hitting her with the handle on the left side of her head and breaking her glasses.

Corning told deputies that his mother needs to be "Baker Acted" and that he didn't hit her with a broom, according to the report.
