Fire rips through Mount Dora lumber yard

Family in nearby home relocated

MOUNT DORA, Fla. – A fire broke out in Mount Dora Wednesday night, according to Lake County Fire Rescue.

The fire occurred on W. Old US Highway 441 around 8 p.m. and was initially reported as a palm tree that caught fire, officials say.

When crews arrived, the warehouse was consumed by flames.

"We saw the fire and we were scared maybe it was going to blow over to our house," said Matthew Short, who lives nearby. "We saw really high flames on the corner of the palm tree and we saw it spread."

Investigators said Ro-Mac Lumber lost a commercial structure in the fire.

A neighboring home was also affected by the fire. Investigators said a 25 percent of the home was lost to the fire. Red Cross is relocating the family.

The investigation is ongoing.
