Toddler taken to hospital with gunshot wound on hand

2 arrested, DCF also investigating

SANFORD, Fla. – A toddler ended up at the Central Florida Regional Hospital after Sanford police said she showed up with a gunshot wound to her hand.

The incident happened Wednesday night. Police said 22-year-old Devolia Sims and 26-year-old Aaron Davis drove the toddler to the hospital after she was left unattended in a garage. Investigators learned guns weren't the only the thing in the garage where police said Davis lives.

"They found drug paraphernalia. They found a number of magazines with ammunition inside and amount of stray ammunition throughout the garage," said Bianca Gillett, public information officer.

Police said while interviewing Sims, she repeatedly changed her story while Davis refused to give a statement. The couple were taken to the Seminole County Jail and have since bonded out.

DCF is investigating the case and said two children who were living with the couple are now with family members.

"It just goes to show that if you have a firearm, it's your responsibility to house it, store it in a safe manner. Especially if you have juveniles who could come into contact with it because there could be devastating results when that happens," said Gillett.
