Teen surfer suffers shark bite, Volusia officials say

15-year-old suffers minor lacerations to foot

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 15-year-old boy was bitten by a shark while surfing in the New Smyrna Beach inlet, according to Volusia County Beach Safety personnel.

The teen from Atlantic Beach was surfing 75 yards from shore when the incident happened Saturday afternoon.

Officials said the teen suffered minor lacerations to his foot.

The teen came to shore on his own. Officials said he was transported for precautionary reasons.

The teen was stitched up and will be out of the water in four to six weeks, but can't wait to get back into the water, the teen's friend told News 6.
