2 people hurt in personal watercraft race event in Daytona Beach

2 people transported with possible spinal injuries

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Two people were hurt during a personal watercraft race event in Daytona Beach.

The fourth annual Daytona Beach "Grand Prix of the Sea" event is taking place this weekend. Event officials said more than 100 racers from around the world were expected to compete offshore in the Atlantic Ocean.

According to a Volusia County Beach Safety report, two people were transported with possible spinal injuries. The injuries were said to be non-life-threatening.

Event officials said spectators could see amateur and pro personal watercraft racers race at speeds averaging 60 mph. An event representative said estimated attendance was 1,500 people.
