1 dead after pickup goes into Clermont lake after accident

2-truck crash occurred on County Road 561


CLERMONT, Fla. – The Clermont Police Department  said a pickup truck driver died Sunday after the truck went into a lake after hitting another pickup truck in  Clermont.

Officers said they received a report at 11:14 a.m. of a traffic accident involving the two pickup trucks on County Road 561 and 12th Street .

When officers arrived they found one of the two trucks partially submerged in Lake Minnehaha.

Officer said the driver of the submerged pickup, Michael Gallo, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The other driver, Bayli Olete-Oneen Oppelt, 18, was transported to South Lake Hospital with minor injuries.

C.R. 561 was shut down in both directions while officers conducted their investigation, which is still on-going.
