Child yells 'stranger danger' when approached by man while walking home

Police search for man who tried to lure kids into car

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – New Smyrna Beach police are searching for the man who they say tried to lure two children walking home from a bus stop into his vehicle when one of the children yelled, "stranger danger."

The incident was reported Tuesday at Halleck Street and Wayne Avenue just after 3:30 p.m.

Police said the man approached the kids and said that he recognized them from the neighborhood and asked if they'd like a ride. 

One of the children replied that she didn't know the man and yelled, "stranger danger," according to police.

The man then pulled into a driveway to turn around and drove east on Wayne Avenue.

Police said the man was described as white with pale skin and red hair and was driving an older model white sedan. No other details were released.

Police said they are interested in questioning the man and no current charges are being filed.
