Owner sought after kayak found near New Smyrna Beach

Search began for possible kayaker in distress, Coast Guard says


NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard is asking for the public's help in identifying the owner of a red and yellow kayak found 30 feet from New Smyrna Beach.

A good Samaritan notified watchstanders about the kayak about 2 p.m.  The Coast Guard said a search began for a possible kayaker in distress.

There were no reports of anyone missing in the area, the Coast Guard said.

Crews with New Smyrna Beach Patrol, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office also searched, authorities said.
