Man arrested on suspicion of setting ex-girlfriend's car ablaze

Vincent Palmer, 27, arrested Sunday

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A man was arrested Sunday on suspicion he set his ex-girlfriend's car on fire in Ormond Beach, police said.

Police discovered the fire around 5 a.m. Saturday. Everything inside the car, which belonged to a woman named Staci, was destroyed.

"In the car she had strollers, car seats and booster seats for the kids," Staci's mother, Lynda Winn, said.

Winn said they also found a note on their mailbox, threatening Staci and her kids, who are biracial. It was signed by the Ku Klux Klan.

Police arrested Vincent Palmer, 27, in connection with the fire.

Winn said it's been tough for her daughter and family, especially for Staci's 4-year-old son.

"It was like him seeing a monster. He didn't recognize it as a car he used to sit in," she said. "When I put him to bed tonight, he said, 'I don't want that person to get into the house and get me.'"

Staci has since set up a GoFundMe to help pay for a new car and to replace the stroller and car seats she lost. If you'd like to make a donation, click here.

Ormond Beach police are also asking anyone with information on this case to call Crimeline.
