Hit-and-run leaves 13-year-old in serious condition, troopers say

Suspected vehicle described as white passenger vehicle

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 13-year-old boy is in serious condition at Arnold Palmer Hospital after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night in Orange County.

Cody Loechner was riding his bike on Alafaya Trail near Science Drive when a vehicle struck him and kept going.

“They hit my son on the front passenger side of that vehicle,” Cody’s mother, Tami Loechner, said. “He flew up the windshield and over the top of the vehicle.”

Troopers said Cody was hit around 7:30 p.m. Saturday by someone driving a white car, possibly a Toyota. The driver did not stop.

Officials said Loechner was riding his bike, trying to cross the street when he was hit, but he was not in a crosswalk.

“Sadly, this happens far too often in Orlando,” said Samuel Dunaway III, the family’s attorney. “People leave the scene of accidents, and it needs to stop.”

Cody’s family said he’s fighting for his life after having surgery Sunday morning. They said he has injuries to his arms, legs and head.

“Accept your actions,” Cody’s father, Edwin Loechner, said to the unknown driver. “Be a man or a woman and come forward.”

Cody's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for medical expenses. You can donate here.
