Man sets up 'cancer graveyard' after wife's 8 rounds of chemo

Polk County family aims to raise money, spread awareness about rare cancer

DAVENPORT, Fla. – A Polk County man is using Halloween to raise money and spread awareness about a rare form of cancer.

In July 2017, Christopher Bailey's wife, Adriana, was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, also known as adenocarcinoma, which is not caused by smoking.

After eight rounds of chemotherapy, she's been back and forth to Tampa for treatment at the Moffitt Cancer Center.

"It's a difficult diagnosis," Christopher Bailey said. "We're aware of the percentages of survival rates."

Bailey already has 311 pumpkins outside of his home and a lot of decorations. He's turned his front yard into a graveyard for a good cause.

He and Adriana are putting up pumpkins and putting up cash to fight cancer. They live in the 400 block of Grovepark Drive in Davenport.

"For every $1 raised, we're going to give 75 cents of that to Moffitt Cancer Cancer, and then take 25 cents to make the pumpkin house even bigger, so the trick-or-treaters can come back every year and be excited and inspired," Bailey said.

Bailey said the pumpkins outside of his home this year, along with the makeshift graveyard, mean more than ever.

"I guess we can say this is the graveyard -- cancer is going to be buried here one day,"  Bailey said.

Bailey said he's confident that his wife will beat the cancer.
