15-year-old girl injured in DeLand shooting, police say

DeLAND, Fla. – A 15-year-old girl was injured Saturday night in what authorities believe was likely an accidental shooting, according to the DeLand Police Department.

Police said they were called to the 900 block of Sherwood Drive after a report of a teen being shot, possibly multiple times.

According to the incident report, the girl told police she was shot while sitting on her back porch.

The girl was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

While the shooting is still under investigation, authorities said it appears to be accidental.

Police said no one at the scene would give a witness statement.

No other details were immediately available.
