S.R. 408 near I-4 to close for 3 nights in a row, starting Friday

Closures start at 10 p.m., ending at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sunday

Starting Friday night, both directions of State Road 408 will be closed near the Interstate 4 exit ramps to accommodate construction.

The highway is shutting down in order for crews to install beams for new exit ramps. The construction, which is part of the I-4 Ultimate Project, will shut down S.R. 408 right in the heart of downtown Orlando. Eastbound 408 will be closed after Exit 11 for Rosalind Avenue and Westbound 408 will be closed after Exit 9 for Orange Blossom Trail.

Here's the breakdown of when the highway is closing by night:

  • Friday Dec. 7: Westbound 408 will close at 10 p.m. Eastbound 408 will close at midnight. Both I-4 exits will close at 11:30 p.m. Everything will re-open at 8 a.m. Saturday.

  • Saturday Dec. 8: Westbound 408 will close at 10 p.m. Eastbound 408 will close at midnight. Both I-4 exits will close at 11:30 p.m. Everything will re-open at 8 a.m. Sunday.

  • Sunday Dec. 9: Both directions of 408 and both I-4 exits will close at 8 p.m. Everything will re-open at 6 a.m. Monday.

News 6 traffic safety expert Trooper Steve Montiero recommends taking Orange Blossom Trail to Kaley Avenue and then to South Street and back onto 408 to avoid the construction while traveling west. Those traveling east can take Rosalind Avenue to South Street and then to Orange Blossom Trail to get back onto the highway.
