I-4 rest stop shooting mystery solved: It was a cover up, deputies say
Seminole County sheriff's deputies say charges pending against man
LONGWOOD, Fla. – A man claimed someone shot him at an I-4 rest stop early Wednesday after he accidentally fired his gun inside his vehicle, deputies said.
The shooting was reported around 3 a.m. in the westbound rest stop along I-4 near State Road 434 in Longwood.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office tweeted that the man suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies said the man initially claimed someone had shot him, but it was later learned that the man accidentally fired his own weapon and then shot up his car to make it appear like someone else opened fire.
The man faces charges of making a false report and discharging a weapon.
Just before three this morning, deputies responded to a shots fired call in the west-bound rest area of I-4 near SR 434. Adult male located in vehicle with non life-threatening head wound.
