Coast Guard rescues boaters who hit sandbar near New Smyrna Beach

Minor injuries reported

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two people were rescued Tuesday after their boat hit a sandbar near New Smyrna Beach.

Only minor injuries were involved, according to a news release from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard learned of the situation just before 6 p.m.

A short time later, a 29-foot rescue boat went out to handle the situation. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation and Edgewater Police Department responded as well.

The boaters were taken to JB’s Fish Camp, where they were treated by emergency medical services workers.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation officials towed the boat to the owner’s home.
