Edgewater police chief resigns after being placed on administrative leave

Resignation comes after city manager, mayor forced out

EDGEWATER, Fla. – Edgewater police Chief David Arcieri resigned Thursday, days after being placed on administrative leave a midst the launch of an internal investigation.

A memo sent Tuesday to Edgewater employees announced that Arcieri, who oversaw the police and fire departments for the city, had been placed on administrative leave until further notice.

Arcieri handed in his resignation letter Thursday, effective Dec. 16, after serving 24 years for the city.

An officer filed a complaint against him on Nov. 9, that ultimately suspended Arcieri and launched an internal investigation. However, the investigation never got underway because the city was still looking for an outside agency to investigate.

Documents in the complaint showed the officer felt intimidated about a conversation with Arcieri that involved the firing of former City Manager Tracy Barlow. The complaint also showed Arcieri felt the officer conspired against Barlow and against him.

Edgewater now needs a public safety director to add to their list of replacements.

The chief's resignation comes just days after the majority of the Edgewater City Council fired Barlow and voted Mayor Mike Ignasiak out of office. A city spokesperson told News 6 that the new mayor will arrive Dec. 3 and a special meeting will be held the following day to find an interim city manager and a permanent replacement.

Division Chief Jeff Lariscy was assigned to act as interim fire chief and Capt. Joe Mahoney was given the role of interim police chief.
