FHP lieutenant shot in Brevard County continues recovery, gives thanks

Trooper shot at Cocoa gas station returned fire, killed teen

COCOA, Fla. – A Florida Highway Patrol lieutenant continues to recover after being shot in the shoulder last weekend.

Lt. Channing Taylor was shot in the shoulder Sunday night in Brevard County, according to FHP.

Taylor would like to thank those who helped him after the incident, troopers said.

Taylor released the following statement Saturday:

"I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone who helped me after I was shot last weekend. Thank you to the troopers that came to back me up so quickly. To the Brevard County Fire Rescue firefighters, paramedics and to First Flight that responded to get me safely to the hospital. To the wonderful doctors and nurses that took care of me at Holmes Regional Medical Center, thank you. Thank you to the Brevard County sheriff's deputies that assisted at the scene and continued to help afterwards. Thanks to all the people that have called and sent emails.

"I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to reach out to me. Thank you to my family, as they have not only supported me through this life-changing incident, but for the last 20 years of my career.

"I am thankful to be able to celebrate Father's Day with my children tomorrow."
