Firefighter injured battling Holly Hill house fire

2nd house fire breaks out nearby in Daytona Beach

HOLLY HILL, Fla. – A firefighter was injured early Wednesday while battling a house fire in Volusia County, officials said.

Holly Hill police said the fire broke out in the back room of a house on Acirema Drive. There was one person inside the home, but he escaped without injury, police said.

Details about the firefighter's injuries were not released.

Police said the Holly Hill home has been without power since Hurricane Matthew hit the region last week.

The state fire marshal will investigate the cause of the blaze.

No other details have been released.

A second fire broke out at a nearby house on Westmoreland Road in Daytona Beach, police said.

A fire official said the homeowner smelled smoke while he was working on a generator and went back into his home to look for his wife.

The homeowner had to be pulled from the kitchen after getting his wife out of the house, officials said. The man is expected to be OK, fire officials said.

An investigation is underway, but fire officials said it's believed that a candle started the blaze.
