TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Police arrested a Cocoa man Friday and charged him with the DUI manslaughter of another man in a January traffic collision in Titusville, according to News 6 partner Florida Today.

Titusville Police said Ronnie Dale Huggins Jr., 33, was arrested in connection with the Jan. 20 death of Titusville resident Jonathan Edward Duff, 48, at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Cheney Highway.

Police say Huggins drove a 2006 Buick Lucerne through a red light at about 10:30 p.m., hitting Duff’s 2001 Ford Mustang as Duff attempted to turn left onto U.S. 1.

The impact threw Duff from his car, and he died from his injuries later that night.

Huggins was driving under the influence and traveling “at an excessive rate of speed,” police said.

A police spokesperson said Saturday that investigators had to review footage of the scene to determine that the collision wasn’t an accident before arresting Huggins, which is why it took almost six months to bring charges.

Huggins was charged with DUI manslaughter and reckless driving causing serious bodily harm, police said. He was booked into the Brevard County Jail without bail. His court date is set for Aug. 26.
