The 27-year-old mini-bike driver was traveling east in the westbound lane of NE 42 Street without “necessary lighting equipment” in the darkness, a crash report shows.

Troopers said at the same time, a 34-year-old pickup truck driver, Justin Michael McCullough, was traveling in the opposite direction on the same road and hit the Ocala man driving the bike head-on.

The mini-bike driver was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

According to FHP, McCullough fled the scene after the crash and was later located after calls from concerned citizens.

McCullough was arrested and faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of a crash involving a fatality.

He is currently booked in Marion County jail.
