Vigil honors Casselberry hit-and-run victim as residents call for change

63-year-old man was struck and killed, troopers say

CASSELBERRY, Fla. – “Amazing Grace” played as dozens lit candles in honor of the 63-year-old man whom troopers said was killed in a hit-and-run crash one week ago while walking his dog.

It happened in a neighborhood near the intersection of Eagle Circle and Shadow Oak Drive.

According to a crash report, Casselberry police found an SUV abandoned about a mile away from where the crash happened.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the inside of the suspected SUV was set on fire.

Troopers said the dog was not injured in the crash.

Wednesday night, neighbors gathered to honor and remember the victim.

“When one of us is taken so unexpectedly, so tragically, it was like a limb was cut off,” said Deborah Bauer, a member of the Sterling Park Housing Association Board of Directors in Deer Run.

She told News 6 that residents have been highly emotional over the last week.

Bauer said residents are planning to meet with Seminole County leaders to discuss traffic concerns in their neighborhood.

Another neighbor, Patrick Adams, said the many who came out for the vigil shows, “people care for what happened, not only for the guy who is a victim, but also they care to make this drive through here safer.”

“Traffic has been a problem here in Deer Run, especially on Eagle Circle for years,” Bauer said.
