Millions of years old? Diver discovers mastodon tusk off Florida coast

Alex Lundberg finds tusk 1/2 mile off Venice

VENICE, Fla. – An amazing pre-historic discovery was recently made off the Florida coast.

Alex Lundberg was scuba diving about a half-mile off Venice when he found a 4-foot long, 60-pound mastodon tusk.

Lundberg needed a friend to help him bring the tusk to the surface.

Experts say the tusk could be anywhere from 10,000 to millions of years old.

Mastodons were elephant-like animals with long, curved upper tusks.

Lundberg says he will be searching for more treasure over the holiday weekend.
