Florida driver flees over 100 mph from deputies, crashes into light pole near I-95, deputies say

Christopher Boone, 30, faces charges of DUI and reckless driving

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A Deltona man was taken into custody after speeding away from a traffic stop over the weekend, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, the sheriff’s office said the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, when deputies patrolling East Moody Boulevard in Bunnell spotted a car that didn’t stop at a stop sign before turning out of a Circle K gas station.

Per investigators, those deputies tried to pull the car over, but instead “fled at a high rate of speed.”

At the intersection of State Road 100 and Seminole Woods Parkway, the car drove through a red light, nearly striking another vehicle, deputies added.

“At one point, deputies estimated the vehicle to be traveling at over 100 mph in a 50-mph zone,” the release reads.

The car soon tried to enter onto Interstate 95, but the driver — later identified as 30-year-old Christopher Boone of Deltona — wasn’t able to make the turn, instead crashing into a light pole along the on-ramp, deputies explained.

Following the crash, Boone got out of his car and fled on foot, though a nearby Florida Highway Patrol trooper and other deputies quickly caught him, body camera video shows.

“Boone is familiar to law enforcement, with previous arrests for charges including grand theft and possession of cocaine,” the release continues.

After securing him, deputies then discovered that Boone was a “habitual traffic offender” with no Florida driver’s license and several active suspensions, according to investigators.

“This guy is a habitual traffic offender with no valid license, yet he continues to endanger other drivers,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “I’m glad the only car that was damaged was his. Nobody was injured or killed by this reckless driving, and this ended with him being taken to the Green Roof Inn where he belongs.”

Boone now faces charges of driving with a suspended license, DUI, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a crash, and obstruction without violence. After being booked, he was released hours later on bond of $15,500.
