PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. – A man was taken into custody Tuesday morning after firing gunshots into the air during a standoff with Brevard County sheriff’s deputies, officials said.
The hours-long standoff took place along U.S. 1 near Fay Boulevard and Camp Road in Port St. John.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said the standoff centered around a “male subject who was firing rounds in the air while barricaded in a building.”
The man, identified as Thomas Scott, was arrested, and no one was injured, sheriff’s officials said.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey detailed the standoff in a produced video posted to Facebook and said Scott shot at seven deputies during the incident.
“If you shoot our deputies, you’re lucky if you go to jail,” he said.
U.S. 1 was closed in the area for “evidence collection and breakdown of the scene,” but it was later reopened.
Scott was jailed on multiple charges, including aggravated assault on an officer and shooting a missile into a dwelling.
No other details have been released.
