Many Central Florida libraries serving as so-called cooling centers during heat wave

ORLANDO, Fla. – As Central Florida braces for extreme heat this week, counties are sharing venues where residents can beat the heat.

Here’s a county-by-county look at the so-called cooling centers.

Orange

Orange County designated public spaces with air conditioning or water features, like splashpads, as cooling locations on its government website, which residents can ride to on LYNX buses for free.

Volusia

Residents in Volusia County can cool down in all county-operated libraries, which are air-conditioned and will be open to the public during their regular operating hours, a news release said.

Brevard

County officials said the government doesn’t open specific cooling centers, but its buildings, parks and libraries are open to the public during normal business hours.
