BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey took to social media on Thursday, targeting an animal cruelty suspect after a dog had to be euthanized.
In a video statement, Ivey said that his agency received a call on Monday about the condition of a dog owned by Andrew Carroll.
But when Animal Enforcement officers arrived at Carroll’s home, they stumbled across something “horrible,” Ivey added.
“The dog was extremely emaciated, and even more concerning than that — if you can imagine — when you see the condition of this dog was how badly infected his leg was," the sheriff explained.
While Carroll initially refused to surrender the dog — nicknamed “Chance” — he eventually gave in, but by that point, the dog was in such poor condition that it had to be euthanized, Ivey revealed.
“Not only did it have a leg that was just severely infected, it was also covered in fleas,” Ivey continued. “It had become necrotic with the flea infestation it had. It was in horrible shape. It had been basically starved to death.”
Furthermore, when officials spoke with Carroll, he reportedly said, “Tell Sheriff Ivey he’s a little (expletive),” Ivey added.
“Well, who looks like that now?” the sheriff asked. “Because it ain’t me.”
Now, Carroll faces a charge of aggravated animal cruelty.
Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office urges anyone who witnesses animal abuse to report it at (321) 633-2024.
