GENEVA, Fla. – A woman is dead after being bitten by an alligator on the Econlockhatchee River, according to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Officials said it happened near the Barr Street Trailhead in the Little Big Econ State Forest in Seminole County around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The woman was sent to the hospital with serious injuries and later died, the FWC said.
Multiple agencies, including the Seminole County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office, were on scene, along with FWC.
Officials said a nuisance alligator trapper was called to the scene as well.
The investigation is ongoing.
The deadly attack happened one day after FWC officials said a juvenile was bitten on the hand by a gator while fishing at Nelson’s Fish Camp.
Officials want to remind the public that while serious alligator injuries are rare, FWC’s Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program removes alligators that pose a danger to people, pets or property.
