TITUSVILLE, Fla. – A Titusville man faces DUI charges after striking a child on a bicycle, police said.
Just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, Titusville officers responded to a traffic crash on South Hopkins Avenue just north of Knox McRae Drive.

According to a news release, Eric Blythe, 52, of Titusville, was driving southbound on South Hopkins Avenue when he struck a juvenile bicyclist who entered the roadway traveling eastbound. The child was thrown into the vehicle’s windshield and transported to a local children’s hospital with serious but stable injuries.
The child was not wearing a helmet. The age of the victim was not given.
Officers detected multiple indicators of impairment and arrested Blythe on charges of driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury and DUI refusal to submit, the news release states.
He was booked into the Brevard County Jail on a $15,500 bond.
“Choosing to drive impaired is a decision that can change lives forever in a matter of seconds,” said Interim Chief Wright. “No destination, celebration, or convenience is worth risking the life of a child or anyone else on our roadways.”
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
