SANFORD, Fla. – Organizers in Sanford set up a new memorial for slain teen Trayvon Martin outside the community where he was shot in late February.
Local 6 was at The Retreat at Twin Lakes on Sunday as organizers dropped off new signs, flowers and stuffed animals. They also left bags of Skittles and cans of Arizona Iced Tea -- the two things Martin purchased at a 7-Eleven shortly before he was shot and killed.

Sanford police say Martin was shot and killed by neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman in late February. Zimmerman says Martin was attacking him and he was forced to shoot the teen to save his own life. Zimmerman believes his actions are protected under Florida's controversial "Stand Your Ground" law.
The original memorial for Martin was taken down and put into storage at the Sanford Museum. It includes signs, flowers, stuffed animals and footballs. Sanford city leaders say they moved the items to protect and preserve them. Organizers of the new memorial say leaders should have spoken to the public before taking action.
"If you ride around [Sanford], you see memorials for people killed in car wrecks, murdered, different circumstances," said Sanford resident Shantee Hall. "Why have Trayvon's been moved into a museum, stored in a box in a room? That's not right and that's not justice for him."
